The American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) annually selects an outstanding student(s) to be the recipient of the Reed Rumsey Student Award for Advancement of Avian Medicine. This year's award was received by Dr. Govindarajan Dhanasekaran, currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. Dr. D. Govindarajan (s/o. Mr. V. Dhanasekaran, Retd. NTC/NPC) is an alumnus of K.V.II, Kalpakkam. He is a veterinarian with a Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences (B.V.Sc.) degree from Madras Veterinary College, Chennai. He received his B.V.Sc. degree with distinction winning 31 gold medals, awards and other prizes for his academic excellence. Currently, he is doing his Ph.D in molecular virology at the University of Maryland, MD, USA, researching important viruses affecting poultry. He was recently in the Kalpakkam online community news for winning the Raymond W. Sarber Award from the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).
